Did you know the following about your town Braintree….

Braintree is the principal settlement of a district with the same name in Essex, England. It has approximately a population of 42,000.

Origin

Where the town got its name is still unclear. Some say that it was named after River Brain. However, some scholars say that it is the other way around—that River Brain was named after Braintree. One other theory is that it was from Branoc’s tree, Branoc being the name of a person who was among the first inhabitants of the town. In the Domesday Book, it was called Branchetreu. The most plausible theory is that it got the name “brain” from the large quantity of walnut trees in the area. This theory was referred to as “Theory of the Walnuts”.
